REMSEN, Iowa -- Ruth Ann Rhodes, 70, of Remsen died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a Christian Mothers and Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mrs. Rhodes was born Feb. 20, 1931, in rural Remsen, the daughter of Alphonse and Erma (Thiel) Pick. She was raised in the Remsen area, and received her education at Union Township Consolidated School, from which she graduated in 1949.

She married Richard Rhodes on Jan. 15, 1951, in Remsen, where they made their home. They owned and operated Dick's Repair from 1952 to 1957. They then moved to Cleghorn, Iowa, where they owned and operated Bud's Place until 1969. Richard died Nov. 11, 1969. Ruth moved with her children to Remsen in August 1970. For nearly 20 years, Ruth enjoyed cooking for the residents of the Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, and supervising their food services until July 2001. She then began cooking for the Senior Citizens Center in Remsen, where she was currently employed. Baking, crocheting and spoiling her grandchildren kept her life very full.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Pat and John Hodgen and Pam and Al Ott, all of Remsen; two sons and their wives, Ken and Barb of Le Mars, Iowa, and Dean and Kelly of Remsen; 12 grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Daniel J. and Carol Jean Pick of Remsen, and Cliff and Nancy Pick of Le Mars; two sisters and their husbands, Vera and Laverne "Gus" Gano of Cherokee, Iowa, and Doris and Don Kolker of Remsen; four sisters-in-law, Kathleen "Kitty" Pick of Remsen, Jolene Pick of Omaha, Janet Pick of Sioux City, and Sylvia Morris of California; and four brothers-in-law, Darrel Rhodes of Omaha, Sub and his wife, Clara Rhodes of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., Wendell and his wife, Coleen Rhodes of Rockford, Ill., and Thomas Jr. and his wife, Pauline Rhodes of Conway, Ark.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Phillip; a grandson, Neal Ott; an infant sister, Vera Ann Pick; three brothers, Glenn, Jerry and Joseph Pick; two brothers-in-law, Harold Berding and Peter M. Feller; and a sister-in-law, Bernice Rhodes.
