MRS. JULIA POECKES

Mrs. Julia (Jacob) Poeckes, long time Remsen resident passed away on December 31, 1958, at the Sacred Heart Hospital in LeMars after a sickness of only two weeks. Mrs. Poeckes death resulted after she suffered a broken hip in a fall two weeks ago. She was 78 years of age.

Julia Sonsma was born April 16, 1880, in the Netherlands, Holland. She came to the Remsen community at the age of 29 years. She was married to Jacob Poeckes at Remsen on February 5, 1902.

Funeral services were held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s church, Remsen. Burial was in the church cemetery under the direction of the Fisch funeral home. Msgr. F. P. Schultes officiated. Pallbearers were: Marvin Pick, Paul Pick, F. Means, Arthur Poeckes; Gene Poeckes, and Roger Poeckes, all grandsons.

Survivors include two sons, Joe and Eugene Poeckes of Remsen; two daughters, Mrs. Andrew Pick and Mrs. Frank Schefstad both of Remsen; a brother, Andrew Sonsma, a sister, Bertha Sonsma, both of Remsen; 18 grandchildren; and __ great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; 4 brothers and a sister.

Deceased was a member of the Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Daughters of America, as well as the Mission Society.
