Katherine R. Kock, 92, of rural Ireton, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2003, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Katherine Ricka Dommer was born Aug. 19, 1911, the daughter of Herman and Amelia (Gerdes) Dommer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church at Craig. Katherine attended country school at Preston #1 in Preston Township.

Katherine was united in marriage to Gerhard Kock on Jan. 3, 1940, at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig. The couple lived their entire life on the "home place" near Craig until becoming residents of the Akron Care Center in 1994. Katherine enjoyed working outside, reading and church activities. She enjoyed traveling, especially Farm Bureau trips.

Katherine is watching over those she left behind, a daughter, Donna Mae Kock of St. James, Minn.; three grandchildren, Bonita and Tom Heilman of Watertown, Minn., Joel and Kristi Johnson of Holstein, and Sarah and Touly Cam of Sioux Center; seven great-grandchildren, Katherine, Adam, and Elizabeth Heilman, Taylor and Ross Johnson, and Alyssa and Willeam Cam; a son-in-law and his wife, Merlyn and Mary Lou Johnson of Sioux Center; a sister and brother-in-law, Adaline and Glen Treiber of Iowa City; two brothers-in-law, Clarence and Gladys Kock of Le Mars and John and Ilse Nagel of Huntsville, Ala.; four sisters-in-law, Phyllus Pomrenke of White, S.D., Marie Janssen of Willmar, Minn., Margaret Pecks of Le Mars, and Irene Lee of Arizona; and many nieces, nephews, and friends in the Craig, Akron, Ireton, and Le Mars area.

Katherine was reunited with her husband, Gerhard who died in August 1995; a daughter, Rose Mary Johnson who died in September 2000; her parents, Herman and Amelia Dommer; and two brothers, Edward and Frederick Dommer.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Craig, with the Rev. Pete Petersen officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery at Craig. Visitations will be after 4 p.m. today (Tuesday), at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Wednesday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. to service time.
