Theodore "Ted" Willer, 97, of Akron passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007.
Theodore William Willer was born Oct, 5, 1909, on the Keystone Stock Farm in Westfield Township, rural Plymouth County, the son of Hans and Cicilia (Heitman) Willer. Ted received his education at Breezy Hill Country School near Westfield. Ted was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church. As a young man, Ted began farming with his father. Ted was united in marriage to Wilma Klemme on Oct. 10, 1945, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. Ted and Wilma continued to farm in western Plymouth County until retirement in 1976. The couple moved to Akron in 1975. Wilma died in 1993.
Through the years Ted had been very involved with the community of Akron. He had been a member of the Akron Lions Club, past president of the Park Board, and the Plymouth County Farm Bureau. He was a part of the original committee that helped to establish the Akron Golf Course. In retirement Ted learned to play golf and enjoyed playing in league. Ted also enjoyed bowling and had bowled in a couple of different leagues. He was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Ted enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. After a hard day's work, Ted was never too tired to play with his grandchildren. His family had always played a very important part of his life.
Survivors include his three children: Lynn Nordsiden of South Sioux City, Neb., Jean Hedquist and her husband Lance of South Sioux City, Neb., and Kaye Held and her husband Mark of Hinton; seven grandchildren: Chris Hedquist and his wife Misty of South Sioux City, Neb., Nick Hedquist of Maryland, Ben Held of St. Cloud, Minn., Danica Held of St. Cloud, Minn., Kelly Nordsiden of Omaha, Neb., Gina Colontino and her husband Paul of Des Moines and Krista Nordsiden of Omaha, Neb.; two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Ryan Hedquist; a sister-in-law Marie Willer of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Cicilia (Heitman) Willer; his wife Wilma Willer in 1993; five brothers: Henry, John, Edward, George, and Julius Willer; and three sisters, Lena Papritz, Ann Hasenbank, and Louise Martin.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Dawn Quame officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitations with the family present will be after 1 p.m. Sunday at the Carlsen Funeral Home, Schroeder Chapel in Akron with a 4 p.m. prayer service at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Chris Hedquist, Nick Hedquist, Ben Held, Danica Held, Kelly Nordsiden, Gina Colontino, and Krista Nordsiden.
