Joan C. Bohlke, 75, of Hinton, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation following a lengthy illness.

Joan Carol Bohlke was born June 1, 1933 in Le Mars, the daughter of Fred and Leona (Lemke) Utesch. As a young girl she moved with her family to Englewood, Calif. Joan and her family later returned to Le Mars.

On March 24, 1951, Joan and Tom Bohlke were united in marriage in Luverne, Minn. The family made its home in Sioux City. In 1965, Joan took on the responsibility of being a farmer's wife, something she was very proud of.

In early years Joan taught Sunday School at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Morningside. She also belonged to a bowling league. Joan was a talented quilter, seamstress and crafter. She sewed display work for Northwest Fabrics, enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, and cake decorating.

She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 57 years, Tom of Hinton; six children Regina Kelley and her husband Tom of Sioux City, Debra Bohlke Boyle of Sioux City, Rocky Bohlke and his wife Janet of South Sioux City, Neb., Kirk Bohlke and his wife Shelly of Hinton, Trever Bohlke and his wife Sherry of Sioux City, and Tracy Bohlke and his wife Barb of Sioux City; grandchildren: Shawn Kelley, Heather Boyle, Shane, Travis, Thomas, Barry, Ryan, Joel, Kallen, Hunter, Chris, Ashley, Bryce, and Kendall Bohlke; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister Betty Wilmes of Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a grandson Jeffrey Kelley.

Funeral services will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. Deacon Jerry Reicks will officiate. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Merrill. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the funeral home prior to the service on Friday.
