REMSEN, Iowa - William M. Sanow, 78, of Remsen died Saturday, March 13, 1999 at Floyd Valley Hospital, Le Mars, Iowa, of Lymphoma.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church of Remsen with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday at Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen. There will be a 3 p.m. rosary, a 7:30 vigil prayer service, an 8 p.m. rosary by the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus followed by a 4th degree Knights of Columbus honor guard and chalice service.
Mr. Sanow was born Aug. 14, 1920, to Henry and Kate (Hansen) Sanow. He was raised on a farm near Marcus and attended rural school. He farmed with his father. He married Elaine Shea, Nov. 16, 1942 in Remsen. They farmed near Remsen and he also operated his own feed grinding business and worked in area road construction. In 1965 they moved into Remsen and he worked as a butcher for Hatz Frozen Foods Center, then in sanitation at Wilson Packing Plant, Cherokee, Iowa. He worked for Klingbeil Mink Farm near Remsen and then for the town of Remsen at a custodian until retiring in 1990.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, 4th degree Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed visiting with friends, puzzles and fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three sons and their wives, Allen and Pam of Marcus, Iowa, Gene and Karen of Vermillion, S.D., and Duane and Jeanne of Remsen; two daughters, Marg Sanow and Deb and her husband, Chuck Herman all of Remsen; a daughter-in-law, Rose Ann and her husband, Bruce Lennon of Marcus; 15 grandchildren; five great grandchildren and two brothers, Lester and his wife, Clover and Dale, all of Remsen.He was preceded in death by a son, Jim, and granddaughter, Wendy Sanow.
