AKRON, Iowa -- Edna Hasenbank, 92, of Akron passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2005, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in Akron, with the Rev. Dawn Quame officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
Edna was born Aug. 20, 1913, in Hartley, Iowa, to Henry and Lena (Schubert) Leckband. When she was one year old, she was adopted to Charles and Mary (Scherner) Ackerman. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school in O'Brien County, Iowa, and was raised on a farm north of Hartley. At the age of 16, the Ackermans moved into Hartley. She worked as a housekeeper for various homes.
She was united in marriage to Carl Hasenbank on July 21, 1933, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. Together, they were the parents of five children, Viola, Wilbur, Vernon, Caroline "Susie" and Marvin. They farmed north of Akron for 57 years. Carl passed away March 12, 1990. Shortly after, she moved into Akron.
She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church for more than 73 years and the W.E.L.C.A. She enjoyed being with her family, relatives and friends. Many often referred to her as "Granny". She enjoyed embroidery work. She also was a member of the Senior Citizens. She enjoyed her times at the Akron Senior Center.
Survivors include her five children and their spouses, Viola and Eldon "Fritz" Gabel of Akron, Wilbur and Joyce Hasenbank of Westfield, Iowa, Vernon and Kathy Hasenbank of Vermillion, S.D., Caroline "Susie" and Robert Gradert of Sioux Center, Iowa, and Marvin and Linda Hasenbank of Sioux Falls, S.D.; a sister, Lillian Kaas of Worthington, Minn.; 23 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Vera and Louise; two grandchildren, Brian Hasenbank and Aaron Minor; and a great-great-grandson, Alan Minor.
Pallbearers will be Lucas Hasenbank, Russell Gradert, Ernie Gabel, David Hasenbank, Carl Gabel, Myron Gradert, Mike Hasenbank, Wes Hasenbank and Jason Hasenbank. Honorary pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
