Arlie C. Criss, 86, of Westfield died unexpectedly Monday, March 3, 2003, at St. Joseph Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, with the Rev. Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ellendale, Iowa. Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Arlie Clifford Criss was born March 2, 1917, in Walthill, Neb., the son of Bernard and Hilda (Asmann) Criss. He attended school and graduated from Teacher College High in Lincoln, Neb. He moved to the Siouxland area in the early 1940s.
He married Esther "Dolores" Boardman on May 8, 1946, in Sioux City. She passed away May 9, 2002, in Sioux City. He farmed in the Westfield area for the majority of his life, up until his unexpected illness. He also worked at Concrete Pipe Machinery Company in Sioux City for 29 years as a machinist.
He will always be remembered as everybody's friend. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing with his grandchildren, planting trees with his son, Arnold and being outdoors.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City, American Teamsters Union Local 383, Boy's of 68, Plymouth County (Iowa) Chapter of Pheasant's Forever and the Plymouth County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include two sons, Russell Criss and his wife, Kelly, of Sioux City and Arnold Criss of Westfield; three daughters and their husbands, Wilma and Rick Minter of Denver, Colo., Sandi and Ed Fravel of Sioux City and Cheryl and Eugene Flynn of North Sioux City; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; three sisters, two infancy and Loretta; two brothers, Bill and Kenneth; a son, Larry Dean Criss; and a granddaughter, Amy Braaten.
Pallbearers will be Ray Braband, Larry Burshell, Doug Freeman, Jim Kenny, Gregg Lanegan and Bob Thompson
