Esther E. Halweg

Esther E. Halweg, 82, of Sioux City died unexpectedly Wednesday, sept. 20, 1995, at her home.

Services were held Monday, Sept. 25, at St. John Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Edwards oficiating. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery near Merrill, Iowa. Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Halweg, the former Esther Reemts, was born Dept. 23, 1912, in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna (Kiewel) Reemts. She married Carl C. Halweg Oct. 1, 1930, in Akron, and worked in their appliance store in Le Mars, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1948. In Sioux City she worked at the Fairmont Ice Cream Store on Pierce st., at Younkers, and at the Council Oak Store.

Mrs. Halweg was a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband; a son and his wife, Donald and Janice of Sioux City; a daughter, Mavis Calunga of Moore Park, Calif; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; a son, Edward, Deanna Kay Halweg.
