AKRON, Iowa -- Ruth Elaine Hisel, 83, of Stuart, Neb., formerly of Akron, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, following a brief illness.

Services will be noon today at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with the Rev. Curtis Matson of Immanuel Lutheran officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time today at the funeral home.

Ruth Hisel was born Aug. 12, 1919, to Miller and Edith (Waterbury) Hansen. She married Conley Hisel on Sept. 2, 1945, in Yuma, Ariz. She was employed as a housekeeper. She also worked as a news correspondent for nearly nine years for two papers, The Graphic of Atkinson and the Holt County Independent of O'Neill, Neb.

Mrs. Hisel lived in Akron from 1919 to 1934; in Sioux City from 1935 to 1945; Akron from 1945 to 1971; and rural Stuart from 1971 to 1996.

Survivors include her husband, William Conley Hisel of Stuart, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Barbara; a brother, Ford Hansen; and two sisters, Vivian Monteith and Helen Wakeman.
