LE MARS, Iowa -- Catherine M. Gellerman, 96, of Le Mars passed away Monday, April 7, 2003, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Catherine Martha Ludwigs was born March 28, 1907, in Grant Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Gerd J. and Helene J. (Borchers) Ludwigs. She was baptized April 14, 1907, and confirmed March 20, 1921, at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. She attended country school and later helped her parents with farming and housework. She worked for many years at Aalfs Manufacturing in Le Mars. She later worked at Westmar College in food service.

On June 5, 1973, Catherine and Henry Gellerman were united in marriage at St. John's American Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The couple made their home in Le Mars. Mr. Gellerman passed away June 27, 1977. She moved to the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center on June 11, 1999.

She had been a member of Christ Lutheran Church before becoming a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed the fellowship and meals at the Senior Center. She loved playing cards with her friends and family and belonged to many card clubs. She crocheted, made crafts and will be remembered by her family as an excellent cook and baker. Her great-nieces and great-nephews were very special to her.

She will be lovingly remembered by her stepchildren, Earl Gellerman of Reno, Nev., Bernard Gellerman of Beresford, S.D., and Donna Gellerman of Red Oak, Iowa; three brothers and their wives, George H. and Irene of Le Mars, Hilbert J. and Evelyn of Le Mars and Gerd J. and Phyllis of Akron, Iowa; a sister, Zelma McCune of Phoenix, Ariz.; 10 nieces; two nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John.
