Jim C. Munday, 79, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Jimmie "Jim" Carroll Munday was born on July 5, 1928, the son of Carl and Emma (Rolland) Munday at rural Thor, Iowa. He attended school at the Thor Public School until 1944 when it closed. He graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1945. Jim then attended Eagle Grove Junior College from 1946-1947 and from 1948-1949. He transferred to Westmar College in Le Mars, graduating in 1951. Jim enlisted in the United States Army and served in Korea from1952 to 1953. He earned his masters in secondary administration in 1970 from the University of Northern Colorado, located in Greeley.

On June 19, 1955, Jim and Catharine "Katie" Miller were married at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center. They made their home in George where Jim was a teacher and coach until 1959. In that same year, they moved to Lawton and Jim was the high school principal until 1966. From there they moved to Hull where Jim took the position of high school principal until 1977. Jim retired from teaching and moved to Le Mars where he was engaged in the insurance business.

Jim was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church where he had served on the social concerns and endowment committees. He was also a member of Wasmer American Legion Post #241.

Jim was an active member of the Le Mars Kiwanis Club where he held several offices and had 41 1/2 years of perfect attendance until he had to resign due to his health in 2007. The Le Mars Kiwanis Club bestowed on him a lifetime membership in their club after his resignation. He enjoyed sports and was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

He is survived by his wife, Katie of Le Mars; a daughter Ruth of Studio City, Calif.; a son Dr. Mark and his wife Kim of Louisville, Ky.; four grandchildren, Mikaela, Taylor, Gage and Tanner Munday; four nieces LuAnn (Tom) Hanson of Port Neches, Texas, Shelly (Brad) Bakker of Apple Valley, Minn., Denise (Greg) Pierce and Kristi (Nick) Scarbough both of Waterloo; in-laws Inez and Don Siefken of Mason City, John and Mary Miller of Rock Valley, and Neva and Paul Johnson of Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Richard and sister Mary Ann in infancy; a sister and brother-in-law Jane and Bob Trout; a nephew David Trout; and in-laws Ruth and Joe Franken of Sioux Center.

Funeral service will take place at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church E.L.C.A. in Le Mars. The Rev. Gary Landsness will officiate. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Friday) at the Mauer - Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. The family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Saturday.

The family requests memorials be given to St. John's Lutheran Church, Hospice of Siouxland, Le Mars Kiwanis Club, or to the family to designate as they wish.
