Alvin Groepper, 83, of Remsen, died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Alvin Groepper was born July 21, 1912, at rural Remsen, the son of Adolph and Kate (Rochau) Groepper. Alvin was raised in the Remsen area and received his education in the rural school system. He was then engaged in farming with his father.

On Nov. 26, 1946 he married Delores Loutsch at Remsen. They made their home south of Remsen where they were engaged in farming on the family farm. In September 1990 they moved into Remsen and Alvin remained active in farming. Delores died April 25, 1992.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Remsen. He was a past member of the board of directors for many years of the Federal Land Bank and Western Cherokee Mutual Insurance.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Bob and Vickie and Chuck and Lana, all of Remsen; three daughters and their husbands, Betty and Ted Sitzmann of Kingsley, Sue and Jim Peterson of Corvallis, Ore., and Lynda and Steve Harpenau of Omaha, Neb.; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Loren and his wife Verna Groepper of Kingsley; three sisters, Viola Berding of Le Mars, Edna Dunne of Kingsley, and Alice Shanahan of South Sioux City, Neb.; three sisters-in-law, Thelma Dorr and Kathleen Groepper, both of Remsen, and Esther Groepper of Aurora, S.D.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; two gandsons, Trey Dion and Isaiah Groepper; five brothers, Ernest, Walter, Harry, Clarence and Kenneth; and two sisters, Mabel Groepper when a young child, Lilly Nestor.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen with the Revs. William McCarthy and Roger Linnan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Remsen.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. today (Thursday), at the Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen. There will be a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m. all at the funeral home.

Casketbearers will be Ryan Groepper, Troy Sitzmann, Joel Iseminger, Kevin Harpenau, Ted Sitzmann and Steve Harpenau.
