Randy Leland Hope, 44, of Rapid City, S.D., formerly of the Akron and Alcester, S.D., area, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colo.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron, with the Rev. Nate Hansen and the Rev. Carla Nelson officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitationwas after 4: p.m. Sunday with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Randy Leland Hope, 44, of Rapid City, South Dakota, formerly of the Akron and Alcester area, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 4, 2007 at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 9, 2007 at Union Creek Lutheran Church, rural Akron, Iowa. Reverend Nate Hansen and Reverend Carla Nelson will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 4:00 p.m. Sunday, July 8, 2007 with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Randy Leland Hope was born October 31, 1962 in Huntington Park, California, the son of Gary and Joyce (Farmer) Hope. He attended school in California and graduated from Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California. Randy worked in the corrugated box industry and real estate. In 1991, he moved to Iowa. He worked for Smurfit-Stone Container Corporation. He was united in marriage to Lois Schlueter on October 30, 2005 in Miami Beach, Florida. In January of 2007, he and Lois moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. Randy worked for Rapid Packaging Company. He was a marketing specialist for the company.

Randy was a devoted Christian with a strong faith in God. He was youth a group leader. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church. He loved being outdoors, hiking and hunting. He enjoyed living in the Black Hills and studying Custer. Randy was full of life, energy, and happiness. He loved his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Lois of Rapid City, SD; his children: Kimberly Hope of Ames, IA, and Leland Hope of Sioux Falls, SD; his parents: Gary and Joyce Hope of Alcester, SD; his sister: Cynthia Stevenson and her husband Douglas of Tracy, CA; his step-children: Rena Anderson and Eric Anderson of Alcester, SD; his nephews: John Stevenson and Dougie Stevenson of Tracy, CA; and several other relatives, in-laws, cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Leland and Dorothy Hope; and his maternal grandparents: Kenneth and Alice Farmer.
