Albertha Faulkner, 82, of Akron, died Thursday, March 13, 2008, at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Albertha Faulkner was born Jan. 5, 1926. in Lake Wilson, Minn., the daughter of Walter and Lena (Smit) Bakker. She and her family moved to a farm near Hudson, S.D. She attended Country School near Hawarden.

She was united in marriage to Bill Faulkner on Nov. 24, 1946, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. Albertha and Bill lived on a farm north of Akron until December 1959, when they moved to Akron.

Albertha was a homemaker for her family. She also worked for the Akron Hospital as an aide. In 1970, she retired due to her health.

She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. She enjoyed playing cards and camping. She also enjoyed crocheting and embroidery. She loved the time spent with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Bill of Akron; three children: Terry Faulkner and his wife Roz of Akron, Brenda Beckman and her husband Doug of Neosho, Mo., and Kent Faulkner and his wife Kim of Salt Lake City, Utah; six granddaughters, Jaime Faulkner and Curt Hawkins of rural Le Mars, Jennifer Faulkner and Dennis Lamoreux of Akron, Sarah Faulkner and Chad Harvey of Akron, Angela Sonnenschein of Sioux Falls, S.D., Michelle Salberg of Akron, and Theresa Nenesio and her husband Tony of Akron; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters: Janet Sogn of Canton, S.D., Betty Bockelman and her husband Ray of Hawarden, Mary Lias and her husband David "Bud" of Akron, and Gertrude "Tootie" Ludwig and her husband Lowell of Akron; a brother: Walter "Butch" Bakker and his wife Judy of Fairview, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Gysbert "Guy" Bakker; and a grandson in infancy.

Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today (Monday) at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation was after 3 p.m. Sunday with the family present after 6 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Casket bearers were Bob Walrod, Mike Bockelman, Tom Bockelman, Steve Wilcox, Doug Beckman, and Tony Nenesio. Honorary casket bearers were Bill Meinen, Milt Schneider, Greg Cornish, her granddaughters, and Paige Richter-Lingle.
