Mildred A. Johnson, 94, of Akron, died Thursday morning, Nov. 29, 2007. at the Akron Care Center in Akron.

Mildred Amanda Johnson was born Sept. 1, 1913, on the family farm in Johnson Township, near Ruble in Plymouth County, the daughter of Barth and Clara (Kallsen) Miller. She was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron. She attended country school in Ruble.

She was united in marriage to Frank Johnson on Nov. 8, 1933, at her parents' home in Johnson Township. She and Frank lived in Akron for many years. Mildred was a homemaker for her family. She worked various places before going to work for the Akron school district. She was a cook and later manager of the hot lunch program. She retired in 1977 after 24 years of service. Frank died March 12, 1976.

Mildred was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron where she was a member of the ladies aide. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing cards and board games, and traveling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her four children: Marlin Johnson and his wife Elaine of Sun City West, Ariz., Karen Bigelow and her husband Brad of Kearney, Neb., Dennis Johnson and his wife Carol of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mary Ellen Carlson and her husband Doug of Akron; nine grandchildren: Lisa Kurtz and her husband Jeff, LeAnn Welsh, Jay Johnson and his wife Emmy, Anders Johnson and his wife Alison, Ann Osmond and her husband Ben, Steve Carlson and his wife Jackie, Sharyl Black and her husband Jim, Cari Brogden and her husband Mike, and Krista Calvert Smith and her husband David; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; a daughter: Sharyl Calvert; a brother: Leonard Miller; and three sisters, Alma Milbrodt, Emma Johnson, and Christine Morehead-Ryan.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. The Rev. Dawn Quame will officiate. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday), with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Casketbearers will be Jay Johnson, Anders Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Steve Carlson, Christopher Carlson, Jeff Kurtz, and John Kurtz.

Memorials can be made in Mildred's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Akron Care Center.
