AGED MERRILL COUPLE
DIE FEW HOURS APART

Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Singer, for 56 years residents of the Merrill vicinity, died Tuesday and Wednesday of last week a few hours apart. Both had reached an advanced age and had been in poor health for a long time. Mrs. Singer died in a Sioux City nurses home and Mr. Singer at his home in Merrill.

DOUBLE FUNERAL SERVICE PLANNED
Mrs. Nick Singer Follows Husband In Death On September 17th

Double funeral services will be held Friday morning at the Assumption Catholic Church at Merrill for Nicholas Singer and Mrs. Mary Emma Stephans Singer, husband and wife, who passed away on September 16th and September 17th. Rev. Greteman will officiate at the 9:30 services. Interment will be in the Merrill cemetery, with Luken’s Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Emma Stephans was born June 10, 1864, in Scales Mound, Illinois, and was 83 years, 3 months and 7 days old at the time of her death. She resided in Illinois until shortly after her marriage.

Nicholas Singer was born on February 9, 1862, in Biram, Germany, and came to the United States when he was a small boy. He spent his boyhood in Illinois. Mr. Singer was 85 years, 7 months and 7 days old at the time of his death.

Mary Emma Stephans and Nicholas Singer were united in marriage on January 25, 1887, in Galena, Illinois, and following their marriage they moved to Plymouth County and have resided near Merrill for the past 55 years.

They leave to mourn their passing three sons, Raymond L. , Nick H., and Clem V., all of Merrill; also five grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Singer also is survived by a brother, Louis Stephans, and a sister, Mrs. Bertha Saam, both of Scales Mound. Two sisters and two brothers preceded Mr. Singer in death.

The bodies were taken to the family home at Merrill on Thursday.
