Meriem R. Erichsen

Meriem R. Erichsen, 94, of Marcus, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus.

Meriem Roberta Erichsen was born on February 23, 1913 in Early, Iowa, the daughter of Robert and Carrie (Haradon) Scothorn. the family moved to a farm near Curlew, where she began her education. They also farmed near Laurens and later moved Sutherland where her father ran a hardware store. Meriem gradutated from Sutherland High School and continued on at the University of Iowa at Cedar Falls where she majored in education. Following graduation taught in country schools around Sutherland.

Meriem and Henry Frederick Erichsen were united in marriage in 1936 at South Sioux City, Neb. they farmed on the Erichsen family farm south of Remsen. During those years Meriem continued to teach at area country schools and Union Consolidated School. They retired in 1978 and moved to Marcus. Henry died in 1982. Meriem moved to the Heartland Care Center in Marcus on May 15, 1998.

She will be lovingly remembered by a cousin Lucille Ott of Marcus; and close family friends Paul and Shirley Shea of Marcus, and Clyde and Carol Schuttpelz of Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Henry; and a brother Douglas.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus. The Rev. James Gruber will officiate. Burial will follow at the Remsen Cemetery in Remsen. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today (Monday) at the Earnest-Johnson Funeral Home of Marcus with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Tuesday.
