Margaret E. Francksen

Margaret E. Francksen, 90, of Le Mars, died early Monday, June 13, 2005, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.
The former Margaret Evelyn Trometer was born July 6, 1914 on the family farm near Merrill, the daughter of Peter and Elizabeth (Knorr) Trometer. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Johnson Township. She attended country school near her home. Margaret was united in marriage to Werner R. Francksen on Jan. 26, 1939, at Merrill. Margaret and Werner farmed near Merrill and Akron for many years until retiring in 1972.

Margaret worked at the Plymouth County Home from 1959 to 1980. She lived in Merrill for several years before moving to Park Place Estates in Le Mars in 2001. In May 2003, she made her home at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Village in Le Mars.

Margaret enjoyed traveling with her family. When she was 80 years old, she traveled with her children to Germany to attend a family reunion and treasured the time spent with her children and relatives.

Margaret enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always enjoyed visiting with friends and family sharing with them her homemade cookies. She also enjoyed embroidery and crocheting.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars.

Survivors include her five children, Marlin and his wife, Vergie Francksen of Anamosa, Larry and his wife, Linda Francksen of Merrill, Betty and her husband, Ron Miller of Merrill, Jeanne and her husband, Ron Schultz of Merrill, and Vicki and her husband, Bob Schwalbach of Gilman; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a sister, Viola Pardee of Sioux City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Elizabeth (Knorr) Trometer; her husband, Werner Francksen on Aug. 3, 1983; three grandchildren, Werner Rae Francksen, Nicholas Lee Miller, and Bradley DeWayne Schultz; three brothers, Wesley, Lawrence, and Lloyd Trometer; and a daughter-in-law, Carol Francksen.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars with the Rev. Larry Fett officiating. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery at Merrill. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present to greet friends after 6 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday morning at the church.

Pallbearers will be Dave Miller, Curt Miller, Bill Miller, Kent Miller, Russell Schwalbach, and Marty Francksen.
