Lowell Dean Morehead
Lowell D. Morehead, 75 of Westfield Ia., died Monday,
December 25 , 2000, at the Akron Care Center.Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29,
2000, at Westfield Congregational Church with Rev. Steve
Jewett officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery in Akron,
IA. Visitations were from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a
prayer service was at 7:00 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral
Home in Akron.Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery with Military services
conducted by Hoschler American Legion Post #186.
Schroeder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.Mr. Morehead was born January 3, 1925, in Le Mars,
Iowa, the son of Howard Morehead and Lavina
Hoffman Newman.He attended country grade schools in the area and graduated
from the Westfield High School in 1943. Mr. Morehead
served in the United States Navy from June 1943 to April
5, 1946. He married Arlene Dreeszen December 20,1945.
Mr. Morehead farmed for a short time in the area. Mr.
Morehead worked at the Westfield School as custodian and
as a L.P. gas deliver for A.W. Hummel.In 1967 he was appointed Post Master of Westfield, IA,
and worked until his retirement in 1987. Mr. Morehead
was a member of the Westfield Congregational Church,
Hoschler American Legion Post #186, Veteran of Foreign
Wars, Charter member of Loess Hills. He loved to volunteer
to help for anyone who needed help.Survivors included: his wife, Mother of Le Mars, two
sons Terry and his wife Evelyn of Westfield, IA, Lance and his
wife Tina of Hawarden, IA, one daughter Sue Mann of
Alta, 12 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren.
Preceded in death by: his father Howard Morehead in
1965 and his sister Ardis and an infant grandchild.
Organist was Sheryl Banks, soloist was Tim Kelley, and
song selections: How Great Thou Art, Just a Closer Walk
With Thee, and Wind Beneath My Wings.Lunch was served at the church following the burial at
the Riverside Cemetery.Pallbearers were Wayne Brown, Bill Brown, Marvin
Toben, Herb Dreeszen, Ron Dreeszen, and Mark
