Edward Herman Willer
Edward Herman Willer, 94, of Akron, died Thursday, Dec. 14, 1995, unexpectedly at his residence.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 18 at the Wesley United Methodist Church. Rev. Don Greenough officiated. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home. Gary Tucker sang “He Touched Me” and “Hymn of Promise” accompanied by Carol Harris, organist.
Pallbearers were Viggo Henriksen, William Miller, Kervyn Heeren, Kevin Eekhoff, Kenneth Wales and Don Caskey.
Mr. Willer was born July 17, 1901, in Akron, the son of Hans and Cicilia (Heitmann) Willer. He attended school at the Breezy Hill Country School east of Westfield, Iowa. He married Alice Gabel Feb. 18, 1928, in Vail, Iowa. She died May 3, 1990. He farmed in South Dakota and Iowa and operated a large livestock feeding operation.
He was an avid baseball fan and was active in golfing and bowling for many years. He was active in starting the Akron Hospital. He was a member of the Akron Lions Club and a member of the Plymouth County Zoning Board. He served approximately 50 years on the Rural Fire board and was on the Election board for many years.
Survivors include two sisters, Lena Papritz and Louise Martin, both of Akron; two brothers, Ted Willer and Julius Willer and his wife Marie, all of Akron and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry, John and George and a sister Anna Hasenbank.
