Blanche Siebens, 102, of Arma, Kan., formerly of Le Mars, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2005, at her granddaughter's home in Kansas.

Blanche Siebens was born on Sept. 27, 1902, in Perry County near Adeyville, Ind., the daughter of Herbert and Leora (Clark) Cummins. In 1905, the family moved to Akron to find better farm land than was available in Indiana. She graduated from the Akron public schools and taught two years in a rural Hawarden school and three years in Portland Township.

On Sept. 8, 1925, Blanche and Andrew E. Siebens were united in marriage at Akron. They farmed and began raising their family near Akron. They later moved to Le Mars and operated an appliance store and a carpet cleaning business. Blanche also worked as a nurse's aide at Sacred Heart Hospital (now Floyd Valley Hospital) primarily in the nursery. Andrew, her husband of 74 years, died Jan. 20, 2000.

Blanche was a member of the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. She was a 52-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons Club and the Mother's Study Club.

She is survived by her sister, Aleen Hodge of Massillon, Ohio; three granddaughters Ann Miss of Pittsburg, Kan., Joan Siebens and Sue Siebens, both of Dallas, Texas; two great-grandsons, John Powers of Tinley Park, Ill., and Will Miss III of Pittsburg, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Andrew; a daughter, Evonne; a son, Arden; and two brothers.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. The Rev. Mike Janes will officiate. Vester Chapter #70 of Le Mars will provide the Order of the Eastern Star rites. Burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
