Early Settler Taken By Death
Frank Zimmerman Lived in County Past Sixty-Eight Years
Frank Zimmerman, 83, pioneer resident of Plymouth county, died at the hospital in Cherokee Wednesday morning after a lingering illness. He had been in failing health for some time, due to increasing age.
Benjamin Franklin Zimmerman was born in September, 1851, in Baltimore, Maryland, and came to Plymouth county with his parents in 1866. His father Rev. John T. (sic--J.) Zimmerman was the first pastor of the Evangelical church established in this county at Melbourne. Frank Zimmerman resided in this vicinity ever since with the exception of five or six years which he spent in South Dakota. He engaged in farming and was later employed in the farm implement business in Le Mars. He was widely known in the county and was well liked in a large circle of acquaintance.
He is survived by three children, George Zimmerman, Mrs. Allen Schindel and Mrs. Lloyd Schneider, of this county, and a brother, Geo. W. Zimmerman, of Plymouth township.
He was a brother of the late Will Zimmerman, of this city, and of the late Noah Zimmerman, well known pioneers of the county.
The funeral will be held at 1:30 Saturday at the Beely undertaking parlors, with Rev. K. Kaupp, of Stanton township, officiating. Interment will be made in the Melbourne cemetery.
