REMSEN, Iowa -- Armella "Millie" Galles, 89, of Remsen died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Timothy Johnson officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery at Remsen. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with a 3 p.m. rosary by the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Mary's Guild and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Armella "Millie" Galles was born April 24, 1916, in rural Remsen, the daughter of James and Mary (Bohnenkamp) Ludwig. She was raised in the Remsen area and received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen.

On April 15, 1941, she married Alphonse Galles at Remsen. They farmed near Remsen until moving into Remsen in 1946. Beginning in the mid-1950s and for approximately 20 years, she was a cook in the hot lunch program at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. In 1975, she began employment at the Abbey of Le Mars, Iowa, until 1984, when she began working at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen, until retiring in 2000. Alphonse died July 5, 1988. Millie had been a resident of Happy Siesta since Nov. 20, 2001.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a longtime member of Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America. Millie loved to bake cookies.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Donald and Song Hee of Naperville, Ill.; a grandson, Jonathan Galles; a grandson, Kristal Galles, both at home; and two sisters, Veronica "Tony" Ruden and Lenore "Lee" Becker, both of Remsen.

She also was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Ludwig; and four sisters, Frances Blum, Cyrilla Henrich, Myra Edwards and Dorothy Dubitsky.

Pallbearers will be Jonathan Galles, Gary Grage, Lyle Heidesch, Larry and Mike Ruden and Steve Pick.
