EMMA J. KLOSTER

LE MARS, Iowa --- Emma J. Kloster, 94, of LeMars died Friday, Feb. 26, 1999, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in LeMars.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City, Iowa, with the Rev. Nick White officiating. Burial will be in Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton, Iowa. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Kloster was born Jan. 4, 1905 to John and Hattie (Stellingwerf) Smeenk in Harrisburg, S.D. Her family moved to Sioux Center where she graduated from high school. She acquired her teaching certificate and taught school in the Des Moines area and Fredonia Township.

She married Nis Kloster in February 1928 in Plymouth County. After raising her family, she renewed her teaching certificate and then taught in Struble, Fredonia Township and Seney.

She became a resident of Rachel’s Haven of Dakota City in 1997, and she transferred to the Plymouth Manor in January of 1999.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Gilbert and Jayne of Atlanta, Ga., and Roger and Cheryl of Jackson, Minn.; four daughters, Judith and her husband, Alvin Brunn, of Fort Worth, Texas, Marilyn and her husband, Richard Bayles, of LeMars, Sharon Sumners of Aurora, Mo., and Twylla and her husband, Thomas Miller, of Remsen; 27 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Gladys Smeenk, of Sioux Falls, S.D.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Harriet Kloster; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Kloster; three brothers, Willie, Joe and Raymond Smeenk, and two sisters, Matilda Smeenk and Nellie De Mots.
