LE MARS, Iowa -- Evelyn DeLair, 93, of Le Mars died Monday, July 8, 2002, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home (new location 780 12th St. SW) in Le Mars, with the Rev. Tom Shinkle officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Evelyn was born Dec. 18, 1908, on a farm in Stanton Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Gustave and Matilda (Bock) Danne. She attended country school and graduated from Le Mars High School in 1928.

On Aug. 20, 1939, Evelyn and George DeLair were united in marriage. George passed away on Jan. 1, 1954. She worked at Younkers in Sioux City for many years.

She attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Le Mars. Fishing, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren were some of the things she enjoyed. She also entertained the residents of Plymouth Manor with her piano playing. Many remember her for her great sense of humor, as she was a truly happy person.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons, Danne of Sioux City, and Donald of Le Mars; a daughter-in-law, Linda of Le Mars; six grandchildren, Aaron, Joshua, Jennifer and Jeremiah of Sioux City, Lisa of Omaha, and Lora of Le Mars; two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Christopher; and several nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Arnold and Lawrence.
