NORBERT H. AHMANN

REMSEN, Iowa --- Norbert H. Ahmann, 90, of Remsen died Wednesday, February 16, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Iowa.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Reverend Thomas J. Hart and the Reverend John Rasmussen of Elk Point, South Dakota, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a rosary at 8 p.m.. said by Catholic Order Of Foresters, all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mr. Ahmann was born July 7, 1909, in Remsen, the son of John and Rosina (Wess) Ahmann. He was raised and educated in Remsen, graduating from St. Mary's high school in 1927. He graduated from St. John's University at Collegeville, Minnesota, in 1931.

He married Inez Clement on August 1, 1932, in Remsen. They made their home in Remsen. He helped build the Remsen light plant, working as a stationary engineer from 1933 to 1936. He then worked for his father at Ahmann Lumber Company and assumed its management from 1938 to 1944. In August 1944, they moved to Sioux City, where he worked for Burke Lumber Company until 1947. He then began working as a teller at Farmer's Savings Bank in Remsen. They moved back to Remsen in July 1949. He retired in October 1979. She died February 24, 1996.

He belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include four sons, Mark and his wife Jane and Leo, all of Wayne, Nebraska, Noel and his wife, Sharyn of Remsen and Hugh and his wife, Bonny Montgomery, Alabama; a daughter, Rita Ahmann of Elk Point; a son-in-law, and his wife, Tom and Diane Britt of LeMars; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a brother, Casey of Cottonwood, Arizona; a sister, Adel Stoffel of Davenport, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Hope Britt and Ann Chapman; and an infant brother, Edgar.

Pallbearers will be Chris and Martin Ahmann, David Britt, Bill Castle, Charles Neuroth and Cyril Schmit.
