AKRON, Iowa -- Elma Helen Anderson, 95, of Akron died Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at Regency Square Care Center in South Sioux City.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Sonja Brucklacher officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Elma was born June 13, 1907, in Akron, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Von Hagel) Jurgensen. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church and went to country school at Searles, Iowa, east of Akron. Elma was employed as a housekeeper for a family in Ashton, Iowa, for six years.

Elma married Alvin Betcke on Feb. 2, 1927, in Akron. They lived on farms in South Dakota. Two sons were born, Marvin and Vernon Betcke. On April 20, 1962, she married Norman Anderson. They retired in 1979 to Ridgewood Apartments in Akron. Mr. Anderson preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 1982.

Survivors include a sister, Phyllis Stokes and her husband, Dale of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, Dorothy Ragsdale and Connie Anderson, both of Cherokee, Iowa, Gene Jurgensen of Sioux City, Marietta Nielsen of Akron, and Cecilia Nichols of Phoenix, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; two sons, Marvin and Vernon Betcke; three brothers, Andrew, Clifford and Alvin Jurgensen; and five nieces.
