LE MARS, Iowa -- Joann Albert, 74, of Le Mars died Wednesday, April 24, 2002, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Jon Meredith officiating. Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday at the church. There will be no visitation at the church on Saturday. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Joann Shilt was born Oct. 19, 1927, in Newtown, Mo., to Joe R. and Hazel (Summers) Shilt. She moved with her family to Le Mars in 1938. She graduated from Le Mars High School in 1945. She continued her education at the National Business Training School in Sioux City. After receiving her secretarial certificate, she worked for Versteigen Printing in Sioux City for five years.
On Nov. 21, 1948, Joann and Richard E. Albert were united in marriage at First Baptist Church in Le Mars. She was a secretary at Central Elementary and Franklin Elementary for 30 years.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir for 63 years and served as its director for many years. Among other things, she taught Sunday School, served on the Diaconate board and played the church organ. She also served on the board of review for Plymouth Manor Nursing Home and was the past president of the Plymouth Promoters. She enjoyed reading, sewing and crossword puzzles.
Joann will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Richard of Le Mars; a son and his wife, Larry D. and Marilyn Albert of Bloomington, Minn.; three grandchildren, Joseph Carl Albert of Alexandria, Minn., John Michael Albert and Jennifer Lee Albert, both of Bloomington; a brother-in-law, Farley Peterson of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
