Wednesday, March 29, 2006Ruth Anna Dorr, 96, a Remsen native and lifelong resident, died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
The former Ruth Anna Eichhorn was born Oct. 23, 1909, in Remsen, the daughter of Fred G. and Marie Dorothy (Boehmke) Eichhorn. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen. She was raised and educated in Remsen, graduating from Remsen Public School. Ruth Anna went on to college and received her teaching degree.
On June 18, 1936, she married Clifford A. Dorr at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus. Mrs. Dorr was a public school teacher for 41 years at Remsen schools as a first grade teacher, impacting the lives of many people.
Ruth Anna was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and a longtime member of their Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the board of directors for the Happy Siesta Nursing Home and was on the Happy Siesta Auxiliary. Over the years, she had served on numerous committees and boards in the community of Remsen.
Ruth Anna was a very giving person and had donated and sent large amounts of clothing items to the needy families in Appalachia and had also donated generously to numerous missions.
She traveled extensively throughout her lifetime and made numerous lifelong friends in her travels throughout the U.S. and to several different countries.
Survivors include three nephews: Barry Holtgrewe and his wife, Lois of Spirit Lake, Kyle Eichhorn and his wife Connie of Omaha, Neb., and Ricky Hey and his wife, Betty of Clinton; four nieces: Susan LeTourneau and her husband, Phil of Montara, Calif., Kay Carter Merlis of Storm Lake, Karie Martindale of Ottumwa, and Karis Carther and her husband, Paul of Moline, Ill.; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband of 41 years, Clifford A. Dorr; two brothers: Milton and Roy Eichhorn; two sisters: Emily Mae Holtgrewe, and Annabelle Hey; a niece, Barbara Lovrien; and a nephew, Randy Hey.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Christ Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Duane Miesner officiating. A private interment will be at a later date.
The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
