Esther Brown
Esther Brown, 87, rural Merrill, died Saturday (April 14, 1990) at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Merrill. Rev. Shirley Textor will officiate and burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, rural Merrill.
Visitation began at 2 p.m. Monday with the family present from 7-8 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.
The former Esther Philips was born Jan. 1, 1903, at Hinton,, the daughter of Samuel and Catherine Weinrich Philips. She attended Morningside College and taught country school. On Feb. 27, 1923, she married Nelson Brown at Adaville. He died Oct. 1, 1972.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Adaville United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Roving Gardners Club, the Iris Society, African Violet Society and Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors are a daughter, Doris Weber and her husband John W., of Early; three sons, Donald F. and his wife, Lucille and Floyde N. and his wife, Jo, all of Merrill; and Melvin D. and his wife, Marilyn of Eldridge; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; seven step-great grandchildren; two brothers, Elmer Philips of LeMars, and William Philips of Akron; and a sister, Mrs. Ralph (Mildred) Gabel of LeMars.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
