Irene M. Parker, 91, of Alcester, S.D., and formerly of Akron, died Friday, Jan. 2, 2004, at Morningside Care Center in Alcester.

Irene was born June 4, 1912, in Union County, S.D., the daughter of Alfred and Betty (Johnson) Miller. She attended Pleasant Ridge rural school and Akron High School.

She married Lone Parker in 1930. the couple farmed in Union County until 1967, when they retired. Lone died in 1973.

Irene was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron, where she was active in the Ladies Aid. She served on the Pleasant Ridge School Board for several years and was a member of the Shady Dell Extension Club. In her free time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and ceramics.

Survivors include her two daughters, JoAnn and her husband, Dennnis Kjose of Alcester, and Norma Verdoorn of Littleton, Colo.; two sons, Gordon and his wife, Pat Parker, of Merrill, and Gary and his wife, Susan Parker, of Akron; a brother, Morris Miller and his wife, Jackie, of St. Cloud, Minn.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, two sisters and a brother.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with the Rev. William Kallestad officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron. Visitation was Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Hansen, Terry Kjose, Dana Verdoorn, LaRue Hansen, Jeremy Kjose and Joe Reuter.
