TREINEN, KRAMER, FOERSTER

Sylvia T. (Kramer) Treinen, 103, of Le Mars, died Saturday Sept. 23, 2006, at Park Place Estates in Le Mars.

The former Sylvia Theresa Kramer was born July 20, 1903, at rural Remsen, the daughter of Henry and Justina (Foerster) Kramer. She was raised in the Remsen area and received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen and St. Angela Academy (Class of 1921) in Carroll.

On Feb. 20, 1928, Sylvia was united in marriage to Leonard J. Treinen at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, and to their union five children were born. Following their marriage, Leonard and Sylvia farmed near Remsen until 1937 and rural Le Mars until Leonard's death in 1966. Sylvia then moved to 1012 Central Ave. S.E. in Le Mars, where she resided until 2001, when she moved to Park Place Estates Assisted Living. She thoroughly enjoyed living there and developed close relationships with their staff.

Sylvia was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. She was also a longtime member of the Christian Mother's Society, the Catholic Order of Foresters, and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for more than 50 years.

Sylvia enjoyed a long and interesting life making many dear friends and was accomplished in voice, piano, painting, crocheting, home arts, and motherhood. Her favorite prayer was the Rosary offered up for the many requests/intentions of family and friends.

Sylvia is survived by her five children: Dorothy and Raymond Langel of Le Mars, Mark and Joyce Treinen of Le Mars, William and Jo Ellen Treinen of Sioux City, Marilyn and John Forman of Plattsmouth/Beaver Lake, Neb., and Charlotte and Terry Townsend of Newton; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law Claude and Anita Treinen of Elrose, Canada; three sisters-in-law: Elizabeth O'Leary of Utica, Mich., Bernice Treinen of Remsen, and Leota Treinen of Coralville; and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; eight brothers: John, Joseph, Bill, Fred, Frank, Charles, and Harry Kramer, and Robert in infancy; four sisters: Elizabeth Bohnenkamp, Ann Foley, Charlotte Kramer in childhood, and Mathilda Kayser.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Kevin Richter officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today (Monday) at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where there will be a combined rosary by the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters at 4 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation before the Mass on Tuesday.

The Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers will be Steve Langel, Dan Langel, Jeff Langel, Paul Treinen, Terry Townsend, John Forman, Jr., and Jason Smith.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Terri Yahnke, Jim Treinen, Lisa Hayes, Monica Forman, and Amy Ely.
