H. V. Jordin Had Been Resident of This Vicinity for Over Fifty Years

H. V. Jordin, a resident of Akron vicinity for more than fifty years, passed away at his home in this city early last Friday morning, February 14, 1936, after an extended illness from ailments incident to advanced years, at the age of 82 years, 9 months and 12 days.

Henry Varnum Jordin was born in Mercer county, Ohio, May 2, 1853, where he grew to young manhood. On February 18, 1883, he was united in marriage with Emma E. Robinson, of Mercer county, Ohio. Two sons and three daughters came to bless their union. In 1883 Mr. and Mrs. Jordin came west and located on a farm in Union county, S.D., west of Akron, where they resided until 1900, when they retired from active farm life and moved to Akron, which has remained their home ever since, except for a brief residence in Sioux City several years ago.

At the age of ten years Mr. Jordin joined the Methodist Episcopal church, in which faith he continued until 1900, when he united with the Church of Christ in Akron, of which church he remained an honored and respected member until the final summons came.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters—John L., of Akron; George W., of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Mrs. Emily Grabarski and Mrs. Viva Pendleton, of Akron; also by five children, nine great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Julia Jeffers, of Kalesville, Mont. One daughter, Mrs. Eva Smiley, preceded her father in death in 1924.

Mr. Jordin was an upright, industrious citizen, a kind husband and father and a helpful and valued friend and neighbor, who will be missed in the community in which he has lived for so many years. A host of friends extend sympathy to the bereaved family.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in the Swanson funeral home, conducted by Rev. W. S. Johnson, pastor of the Christian church. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.

Relatives who came from a distance to attend the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. George Jordin, of Sioux Falls, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Klemme, of LeMars, and Mrs. Opal Brown, of Sioux City.
