DEATH COMES TO MURIEL FLETCHER LAST SATURDAY

Rites Held Tuesday For An Esteemed Akron Woman

Muriel Fletcher, a resident of this community during most of her life, died Saturday morning, 13, 1948, at her home following an extended illness. While she had been in poor health for a number of years, she was stricken with her final illness on Tuesday of last week and her final illness on Tuesday of last week and her condition gradually declined until the end came last Saturday.

Muriel Fletcher, the daughter of Lawrence and Nora Fletcher, was born December 12, 1900, at Durham, Missouri. She came with her parents when they moved to Akron, residing on a farm about two and a half miles southwest of town, in Union county, S. D.

Muriel grew to womanhood in this community, graduation from Akron High school and later attending Normal school. She was a teacher in Union county schools for a number of years, following which she became county superintendent and served in that capacity for a number of terms. For the past several years she has been employed as secretary and office manager of the local doctors' clinic, a position which she filled most capably and efficiently up to the time of her final illness.

Muriel possessed a pleasing personality, and was regarded as a superior student, an excellent teacher and county superintendent. Never of a complaining nature, she bore her years of poor health with rare fortitude.

Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Nora Fletcher, of Akron; seven brothers, four of Akron, one of Elk Point, S.D. and two residing near Chicago; two sisters, one of Garretson, S.D. and one of Denver, Colo.

All have the deep sympathy of this community in their bereavement.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church on Monday afternoon with Rev. Ellis L. Jackson officiating. Six brothers of the deceased acted as pallbearers. Burial was Riverside cemetery.
