SERGEANT BLUFF -- Bruce B. Nash, 61, of Sergeant Bluff passed away Sunday, March 21, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Burial will be at a later date. Any gifts of flowers and plants should be delivered to the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Bruce was born Sept. 14, 1942, in Portland, Ore., to Alvin and Evelyn Nash. He moved to Sioux City with his family in 1948. He lived in Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff most of his life.

He graduated from East High School in 1960. He served in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963 as a medic. He then served one year in the Peace Corps as a hematology instructor. He worked as a lab technician in various Sioux City hospitals from 1967 to 1978. He worked at Terra International from 1978 until his retirement in December 2001. He most recently worked as an industrial lab technician with Analytical Consulting Services in Sergeant Bluff.

He married Nancee Cornils on June 10, 1972. They were the parents of two children, Chelsea Nash and Luther Nash. He married Kay Resel on May 29, 1984. They were the parents of two children, Benjamin Nash and Angela Nash.

He is fondly remembered for his love of fishing, a passion he shared with his children. He also shared a love of gardening with his mother, Evelyn, and his brothers, Roger and Jeff. He was an avid reader and very knowledgeable about many topics, particularly world and U.S. history. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, chess and music, especially playing the guitar.

He is survived by his mother, Evelyn Nash of Sioux City; a son, Benjamin at home; a daughter, Angela at home; a daughter and her husband, Chelsea Nash and Alex Wolfe of Chicago, Ill.; a son, Luther of Iowa City, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Jeff and Loretta and family of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Roger and Vicki of Denham Springs, La.; an uncle, Merle Chapman of Colorado; an aunt, Ruth Taylor of Ottumwa, Iowa; his caregiver and friend, Kay Resel; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Nash; paternal grandparents, Vivian and Ellen Nash; maternal grandparents, Pauline and Edward Kuehl; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Oncology Unit, St. Luke's Intensive Care Unit or the Siouxland Regional Cancer Center.
