AKRON, Iowa -- Walrod, Christopher Ai "Skil",31, of Akron died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at Akron Care Center.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Jerry Crow officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Christopher Ai Walrod was born Nov. 11, 1971, in Hawarden, Iowa, the son of Robert and Gail (Klemme) Walrod. He was baptized at Preston Township Lutheran Church and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. He graduated from Akron Westfield High School in 1989. Chris lived two years at Opportunities Unlimited in Sioux City.
He was a Boy Scout and was one patch away from obtaining his Eagle Scout. He was a Little League coach in Akron. In his free time, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and Iowa State fan and all around sports fan. He loved to watch high school wrestling and other high school sports, but most of all he loved to watch his two younger brothers play the sports they were involved in during high school.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Gail Walrod of Akron; two brothers, Austin Walrod and Jenny Junck of Sioux City and Robert "Bobby" Walrod of Akron; maternal grandmother, Evelyn Gronemeyer of Hawarden, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Pearl Ringgenberg of Carol, Iowa; his special friends, Don Allaway Jr., Wayne Theeler and Greg and Lisa Keine; his godparents, Mark Kowalke, Gloria Kowalke and Ellen Renken; his aunts and uncles, Rich and Linda Walrod, Ron and Shirley Walrod, Mark Kowalke, Ellen Renken, Chuck Renken and Gloria Kowalke; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ai Walrod; maternal grandfather, Norman Klemme; and stepgrandfathers, Glen Gronemeyer and Russ Ringgenberg.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Allaway, Wayne Theeler, Shane Coyle, Troy Hemmelrick, Tony Turner, Jon Coyle and Travis Tentinger. Honorary pallbearers will be Jessica Kirkendall Oetken, Becky Kirkendall, Amy Avery, Lisa and Greg Keine, Tammy Allaway, Rachel Theeler, Maria Carillo and Jerold Dykstra.
