Mary Ann Parmeter, 84, of Hawarden, Iowa, formerly of Westfield, Iowa passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Deacon Richard Port from St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 11:30 a.m. until service time on Sunday at the funeral home.
Mary Ann Schovanec was born September 25, 1929 in Bison, Oklahoma, the daughter of Louis and Mary Rose (Semard) Schovanec. As a child, she moved with her family to South Sioux City, Nebraska. She attended school in South Sioux City.
She was united in marriage to Floyd Parmeter on May 17, 1946 in South Sioux City. She worked as a cashier for a local grocery store and was a homemaker for her family. In 1974, they moved to a farm south of Westfield, Iowa. Floyd passed away March 4, 2001. Mary Ann continued to live on the farm until moving to Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden in 2002.
Through the years, Mary Ann enjoyed bowling, sewing, and listening to music. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children: Gene Parmeter of South Sioux City, NE, Roger (Debbie) Parmeter of Kirbyville, MO, Connie Headley of Clearwater, FL, Steve (Jane) Parmeter of Westfield, IA, and Marty Parmeter of Alcester, SD; a special daughter in law: Ella Parmeter of Alcester, SD; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; her siblings: Viola Helbert of Omaha, NE, and Ray Schovanec of Omaha, NE; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters; and a daughter in law: Barb Parmeter.
Memorials can be made in Mary Ann's name to Hospice of Siouxland.
Mary Ann's family would like to the thank the staff at Hillcrest Health Care Services in Hawarden, especially her daughter in law, Ella Parmeter, and her granddaughter, Alisha Parmeter, and Hospice of Siouxland for their loving care and support.
