REMSEN, Iowa -- Frank Elmer Beckmann, 90, of Remsen died Tuesday, July 11, 2006, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary at 8 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.
Frank was born Oct. 22, 1915, in rural Remsen, the son of William and Mary (Stunebeck) Beckmann. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education at St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen. He farmed his entire life in the Remsen area.
On Feb. 24, 1941, he married Verina Wiederholt in Remsen. They made their home near Remsen. In the mid 1970s, he drove school bus in the Remsen School System. They retired and moved into Remsen in the fall of 1972. Verina died Sept. 22, 2003. He had been a resident of Happy Siesta Health Care Center since June 2006.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed woodworking, bowling, playing cards, fishing and spending time with his friends.
Survivors include two sons and their wives, Larry and Karen and Dale and Betty, all of Remsen; a daughter and her husband, Mary and Buzz Vermeer of Wahpeton, Iowa; a son-in-law and his wife, Larry and Linda George of Shenandoah, Iowa; nine grandchildren and spouses, Dan and Debbie Beckmann of Omaha, Michelle and Russ Schroeder, Jaime and Matt Homan, all of Remsen, Jackie Beckmann of Dallas, Texas, Brian Beckmann and Jason Beckmann, both of Aurora, Ill., Stacy Beckmann and her fiance, Ken Campbell, both of Springfield, Mo., Erin and Chris Falcon of Kerville, Texas, and Evan George in the U.S. Air Force stationed in Japan; two stepgrandchildren and spouses, Niki and Roger Kredit and Josh and Kim Vermeer, all of Sioux Center, Iowa; 11 great-grandchildren; six great-stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Lewine Thompson of Remsen and Mary and her husband, Albert Joanning of Granville, Iowa; four sisters-in-law, Blanche Wiederholt of Remsen, Helen Wiederholt and Rita Wiederholt, both of Le Mars,
Iowa, and Agnes Wiederholt of Granville, Iowa; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Bernard and Elaine Wiederholt of Le Mars, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Janice George; a grandson, Nolan George; a granddaughter, Janiece George; and a brother, William.
Pallbearers will be Dan, Brian and Jason Beckmann, Matt Homan, Russ Schroeder and Josh Vermeer. Honorary pallbearers will be his granddaughters, great-grandchildren and members of the Knights of Columbus.
