A Memorial Service for Leslie and Mary Lou Mitchell will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Rexwinkel - Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa with Pastor Susan Juilfs officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Private family burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Military honors for Leslie will be provided by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron.

Mary Lou Mitchell was born November 6, 1925 to the proud parents of Lucille Akers Ross and Donald Ross of Akron Iowa. She was an only child, and graduated from Akron High School in 1943. She left Akron to pursue her dream in music at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. She majored in singing and piano. After college she married Leslie M. Mitchell in 1943. She was self employed, owning and operating "Mitchell Realty" in Akron and surrounding communities for over 40 years. Mary was very active in "The Ye Olde Opera House and was in many plays and musicals over the years. She enjoyed playing classical music on the piano and had many music recitals; she loved to sing classical music as well. Mary was very active in the community and was a member of Eastern Star. Later in life she was diagnosed with dementia. Mary Lou passed away in her sleep on July 11, 2016 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Leslie Miles Mitchell was born August 20, 1924 to the proud parents of Fern and James Creed Mitchell of West Virginia. He grew up in West Virginia. When he was 17, he joined the Air Force and proudly served his country for four years. He served during WWII and flew in 24 bomber missions. Serving in the Air Force was his proudest accomplishment. After the war, he married Mary Lou Ross-Mitchell of Akron Iowa. He was a self employed farmer in Akron for many years. After retirement, he briefly sold cars for Truesdell Motors in Hawarden, Iowa. Les was very active in the community and a member of the Mason's Lodge (32nd degree) in Akron Iowa. Les had many hobbies: hunting, fishing, cars, boats, airplanes, and guns just to name a few. He had his aviators license active throughout his life. He also loved traveling and dreamed of having a cabin in the mountains in The Black Hills of South Dakota. Some of his favorite places to travel were South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, and Wyoming; any place with mountains and water. Les passed away June 11, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Leslie and Mary Lou are survived by two sons: Matt Mitchell of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Chris Mitchell of Phoenix, Arizona; and two grandchildren: Michael and Lauren Mitchell of MinneaIpolis, Minnesota.
