Edward Mace Sr., 62, of Yankton, South Dakota, formerly of Akron, Iowa passed away Friday, January 15, 2016 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton, South Dakota.

Memorial services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Pastor Dani Jo Ninke of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Yankton, SD will officiate. Internment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Edward Lee Mace Sr. was born May 18, 1953 in Yankton, South Dakota, one of twins born to Ervin Sr. and Margaret (Cook) Mace. He grew up in the Akron, Iowa area and attended school in Akron. Later, he received his nursing degree from Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City. Following his schooling, he worked in nursing. Later, he worked in general construction until retiring due to his health. He also worked part time for the KOA kampground in Yankton during the summer months.

He was an avid fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals. Throughout his life he found joy in many activities including dancing, bowling, and umpiring baseball. Some of his favorite memories came from spending time with family while camping.

Survivors include 3 sons: Jason (Kristi) Mace of Missouri, Douglas Mace of Minnesota, and Adam Mace of Missouri; a daughter: Jennifer (Gordon) Beerman of South Dakota; dear nephew: Steve Mace of Iowa; 11 grandchildren; his significant other: Gerri Rae Otteman of South Dakota; her daughters: Amy (Sean) Mulloy of South Dakota, Kay (Justin) Smorawske of South Dakota, and Sara (Sean) Bray of Louisiana; his siblings: Jerry Mace Sr. (Cindy Milner) of South Dakota, twin sister Mary Kelly of Iowa, Leann Cole of Nebraska, Ervin Jr. (Tiffany) Mace of South Dakota, Stephanie Orozco of Iowa, Leo Mace of Nebraska, and Travis (Jessica) Mace of Nebraska; numerous nieces and nephews and close friends: Don (Nancy) Starzel of South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Alan Mace Sr. and Donald Mace; and a son: Edward Mace Jr.
