Arlene Helen Johnson, 84, of Sioux City died suddenly Saturday, May 2, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Dave Denzer officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel, 6200 Morningside Avenue.

Arlene was born April 19, 1925, in Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alma (Miller) Milbrodt. She graduated from Akron High School in 1944.

She married Edward O. Johnson in 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. Mr. Johnson died Aug. 23, 1986. She worked at Palmer Candy as a receptionist for 17 and one half years. She also was a senior companion as a care taker for 15 years.

She was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and Esther Circle. She was a member of the American Legion Monahan Post 64 Auxiliary, where she served as secretary and membership chairman.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Diane and Sean Branham of Denver, Colo., and Beverly and Lance Bos of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Wayne and Marilyn Milbrodt of Sioux City; five grandchildren, Stacey and her husband, Christopher Sena, Christine and her husband, Gabriel Kleinberg, Anthony Gehrts, Jason Bos and his wife, Lindsey and Tyler Bos and his fiancee, Autumn Peck; and seven great-grandchildren, Lilian, Grace and Emma Kleinberg, Oscar and Charlie Sena and Ella and Ava Bos.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; a son, Douglas Johnson; a granddaughter, Valerie Gehrts; and two brothers, Glen and Donald Milbrodt.

Pallbearers will be Jason Bos, Tyler Bos, Anthony Gehrts, Gabriel Kleinberg, Christopher Sena and George Finzen.
