REMSEN, Iowa -- Martin R. Peters Jr., 81, of Remsen died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m., a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Catholic Order of Foresters rosary at 8 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Martin was born Aug. 1, 1925, in rural Remsen, the son of Martin and Regina (Nothem) Peters Sr. He was raised in the Remsen area and received his education in both the rural school system and St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen, graduating in 1943. He then engaged in farming.

On Sept. 22, 1948, he married Arlene Delperdang in Remsen. They farmed near Remsen and retired on the farm. In August 1993, they moved into Remsen. Arlene died March 30, 1995. He had been a resident of Happy Siesta since Aug. 11, 2006.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters. He enjoyed the farm life but his real passion was fishing. The couple enjoyed numerous trips to the Minnesota lakes.

Survivors include two daughters, Joyce and her husband, Gary Kessler of Columbus, Neb., and Beverly Prescott of Fort Dodge, Iowa; a son, Richard of Tea, S.D.; six grandchildren, Kendra (Kessler) Sayler, Jesse, Logan and Riley Prescott and Nick and Alex Peters; a sister and her husband, Mary Ann and Emmett Freking of Le Mars, Iowa; and a brother-in-law and his wife, Wayne and Jeanette Delperdang of Spirit Lake, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Jon Dykstra, Jim Freking, Dave Jaminet, Dave Klein, Randy Portz and Jesse Prescott. Catholic Order of Foresters honorary pallbearers will be Michael Bunkers, Wayne Heidesch, Lavern and Shirley Jaminet and Richard and Mary Roder.
