Zora Mae Kerr

Zora Mae Kerr, 86, of rural Akron, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 5, 1999, at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center following complications of a stroke.

Services were held Saturday, January 9, 1999, at Schroeder Funeral Home Akron with Reverend Justin May officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Pianist was Carol Harris with Aaron Ker as cellist.

Mrs. Kerr was born on February 29, 1912, in St. Maries, Idaho, the daughter of Susanna and Arthur Eldridge. She was adopted as a baby by Zora and John Schall. They lived in Mitchell, S.D., where she attended school. After high school, Zora attended college at the University of South Dakota in Vermilion, S.D. While at USD she studied English and Journalism. After high school, Zora attended college at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D. While at USD she studied English and Journalism. After her graduation from USD she spent a brief period working for a newspaper in Mitchell, S.D.

She married Fay Kerr on September 1, 1935, in Vermillion, S.D. They spent most of their adult life on the family farm in Union County, S.D. During the 1950’s and 60s she was an active member in the Sioux City Kennel Club. She enjoyed watching different animals and birds while living on their farm. She also enjoyed following the news and current events.

Survivors include: her husband; one son, Gary Kerr and is wife, Karren, of Omaha, NE; one daughter, Nancy Adams and her husband, Bob, and his daughter, Megan, of Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Aaron Kerr, of St. Paul, MN, Justin Kerr of Chicago, IL, and Robin Gillespie of Lawrence, KS.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
