SIOUX CITY -- Margaret L. Small, 84, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, at a local hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Nea Huggins and Kathy Olson officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Margaret was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Chatsworth, Iowa, the daughter of Chuck and Jessie (Dierksen) Hendricks. She grew up in Chatsworth, attending school there and graduating from Akron High School.
Margaret married Harley E. Small on Feb. 14, 1944, in Cherokee, Iowa. The couple lived in Siouxland before moving to Sioux City in 1957. Margaret was primarily a homemaker and caregiver to her son, Charlie, who was handicapped, and her husband after he suffered a stroke in 2001. Harley preceded her in death on Sept. 27, 2003, in Sioux City. Margaret loved to cook and crochet. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for more than 20 years.
Margaret is survived by her sons, Kerry and wife, Barb Small of Sioux City, and Shawn and wife, Randee Small of Sioux City; daughter, Sandy and husband, Lynn Carlson of Merrill, Iowa; five grandchildren, Chris and husband, Mike Word, Eric and wife, Jamee Carlson, Jacob Small, Shane Small and Shelby Small; three great-grandchildren, Ben and Amanda Crosby and Glen Carlson; a sister, Shirley and husband, Wayne Rasmussen of Sioux City; a brother, Donald and wife, Dee Hendricks of Chatsworth, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harley; and two sons, Harley L. Small and Charles E. Small.
Pallbearers will be Jacob Small, Shane Small, Mike Word, Eric Carlson, Chris Word, Amanda Crosby and Shelby Small.
Memorials may be made in Margaret's name to Wesley United Methodist Church.
