Gerald "Jerry" Huldeen, 79, of Sioux City, Iowa died Friday, March 20, 2015 at Unity Point Health - St. Luke's in Sioux City from complications with diabetes.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church, 621 Jennings Street, Sioux City. Pastor Kenny Hsu will officiate. Private family burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron, Iowa. Memorials can be made in Jerry's name to St. Paul's Lutheran School, Sioux City, Iowa.

Jerry was born April 23, 1935 in Ida Grove, Iowa, the son of Alvin and Florence (Brynteson) Huldeen. He grew up in Odebolt, Iowa and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1952. He received his Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Morningside College in 1956, and his Masters Degree in Music Literature from the University of South Dakota in 1963. He was a band director at Panora, Sioux Valley Community Schools, Manning, and Sioux City, Iowa. Jerry and Mabel were united in marriage on August 5, 1956 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. They had three children: Kirk, Kala, and Jay. He was a member of St. Paul''s Lutheran Church in Sioux City. He was also a member of the Iowa Bandmasters Association, National Band Association, Sioux City Symphony during college, and the Sioux City Municipal Band, Sooland Amateur Radio Association, American Radio Relay League, and Mended Hearts Association. He played trumpet in area dance bands for 35 years. He loved teaching, playing in brass groups, camping, traveling, fishing, ham radio, and bad puns. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mabel of Sioux City; his children, Kirk, Kala and Michael, and Jay; his granddaughter, Iandra; a brother in law, Dewey Dull; a cousin, Arlene Hutchinson and family; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Gladys; a brother, John; a sister in law, Lucy; and a sister, Carolyn Dull.
