Marie Henke of Akron, Iowa, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014, at Unity Point Health – St. Luke’s in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 20 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Jim Berka will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19 at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Lois Marie Weidenfeller was born May 26, 1930, in Akron, the daughter of Anthony and Clara Mae (Kapfer) Weidenfeller. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron High School in 1948.

She was united in marriage to William “Buzz” Henke on October 25, 1948, in Akron. For three years, they farmed in Union County, South Dakota, until moving to Akron. After moving to town, Marie stayed home to take care of her family. Later, she was the secretary for the bowling leagues in Akron and worked as a waitress at the Akron Bowling Alley. After retiring, she and Buzz continued to make their home in Akron. Buzz passed away February 19, 1998. For the past 13 years, Marie has made her home at the Ridgewood Apartments in Akron.

Through the years, Marie enjoyed bowling and golfing. She also enjoyed playing Bingo and cards with her family and friends. She and Buzz, and most recently her sister, enjoyed playing the slots at the casino. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her three children: Bill (fiancé, Joslyn Hansen) Henke of Sioux Falls, SD, Elizabeth Gallentine of Omaha, NE, and Leonard (fiancé, Kim Wescott) Henke of Akron; her granddaughter: Melisa (Cliff McGraw) Gallentine of Omaha, NE, and her son, Jax; a sister: Dorothy Siebens of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buzz; a brother: Leo Weidenfeller; a grandson: Danny Henke; and a brother in law: Marvin Siebens.
