Byron Gardner, 45, of Akron, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

A Celebration of Life will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at Carlsen Funeral Home - Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Reverend Dawn Quame of Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron will officiate. Burial of his ashes will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery in Akron. Visitation with the family present will be from 2:00 p.m. until the service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Byron Gardner was born July 11, 1966 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Virginia Gardner. He was raised near Davis, South Dakota. He graduated from Centerville (SD) High School in 1986. He enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his time in the service, he was stationed at several bases throughout the world, including Turkey. He received a medical discharge from the service. Following his service, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where he worked as a C.N.A. for six years. In 2010, he moved to Akron, Iowa to be closer to his sister, Belle Beeck. Byron was currently working as C.N.A. at the Akron Care Center. Through the years, Byron enjoyed reading and playing games on his computer. After moving to Akron, Byron enjoyed the times spent with his niece, Jeni, and her daughter, Kendra. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his sister, Belle Beeck of Akron; his niece: Jeni Beeck and her daughter, Kendra of Akron; and his aunt: Lorraine Peterson of Elk Point, South Dakota.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Gardner; his brother in law: Dennis "Mert" Beeck; and several aunts and uncles.
