AKRON, Iowa - Mary Jane Malcom, 74, of Akron died Friday, March 21, 1997, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, with the Rev. Marion Sindt officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mrs. Malcom was born Feb. 24, 1923, in Whiting, Iowa, the daughter of Andrew and Alice (Beanblosom) Lohse. She graduated from high school and attended two years at Wayne State College in Wayne, Neb.

She married Dean Malcom on Dec. 24, 1941, in Wayne, Neb. The couple farmed in the Westfield, Iowa area until 1958, when they moved to Akron. The couple then drove truck for many years. She worked for the Green Thumb Program until her retirement.

Survivors include three sons, Alan of Crowley, Texas, Alfred and his wife Virginia of Moville, Iowa and Mark of North Carolina; six daughters, Jerry and her husband Phillip Bringman of Princeton, Iowa, Roberta and her husband Lester Van Buskirk of Colorado Springs, Colo., Shirley and her husband Dan Sanders, Laura and her husband Charles Hughes, Judy and her husband Jack Lanning, and Pat Button all of Akron; two sisters, Dorothy Barto and Wanda Colette both of Sioux City; two brothers, Harold Lohse of Kansas City and George Lohse of Howard, S.D.; 21 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant daughter, Connie.

Pallbearers will be Robert, W.C. and Bryan Sanders, David Button, Jim Bringman and Peter Van Buskirk.
