Verl Kehrberg, 90, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Sunday evening, January 15, 2012 at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 19, 2012 at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ with Reverend Jan Christensen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 5:00 p.m. to greet friends followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service all at the funeral home. Visitation will continue Thursday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be Dr. Robert Drummond, Jerry Knight, Dan Main, and Chris Rafter.

Verl Victor Kehrberg was born March 12, 1921 on the family farm in Elkhorn Township, near Kingsley, Iowa to Julius and Myrtle (Kellner) Kehrberg. Verl graduated from Kingsley High School in 1939. As a young man, Verl operated a trucking company hauling grain for local farmers. Verl was united in marriage to Lillian Woodward on February 4, 1942 in Pierson, Iowa. Verl and Lillian farmed for 20 years near Kingsley. While still farming, Verl also decided to follow in his Father's footsteps and pursue a part-time insurance career. Verl started as a hail adjustor for Grinell Mutual Insurance Company and later became a field man traveling throughout Iowa, representing the Grinnell Mutual Insurance Company by visiting local county mutual insurance companies. In 1963, he accepted the position of Secretary / Manager of Plymouth Farmers Mutual Insurance Association in Le Mars and soon founded the Verl Kehrberg Insurance Agency. He continued his agency and served as Secretary / Manager for 29 years Verl had always been community minded; having served on the Le Mars City Council, Mayor Pro-Tem, longtime member of the Le Mars Rotary having served as President. He enjoyed golfing with friends, playing cards at the Senior Center, bowling, and spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include 2 children, Errol Kehrberg of Youngstown, Ohio and Linda Smith and her husband Dennis of Le Mars; 2 grandchildren, Kimberly Spier and her husband Russell of Hartley, IA and Tait Smith and his wife Liz of Woodland Hills, CA; 3 great granddaughters, Jessica, Mallory and Elizabeth Spier; 2 nieces, Ladonna Proffit of Sebring, Fl. And Marion Kehrberg of Hoffman Estates, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Myrtle (Kellner) Kehrberg; his wife Lillian on April 2, 2005; a sister, Lucille Teisinger; and a brother, Harland Kehrberg.
